Throughout the industrial cycle

Research in processes and product development is essential for Ternium’s growth. With a network of more than 50 universities and laboratories in the public and private sectors, our research program is unique in Latin America and covers the entire industrial cycle.

Towards a smart factory

In 2017, Ternium started to implement a series of new technologies to improve productivity, efficiency and industrial safety. As of today, more than 1,000 employees in industrial and commercial areas have mobile devices so they can perform on-site as well as remote tasks. Through the use of Virtual Reality, we can provide training in the handling of high-complexity equipment, exposing future operators to an actual representation of what takes place at the plant. 3D printers and scanners play a vital role in maintenance and operations areas.

Industry 4.0

Our technological advancements offer a great opportunity to optimize processes. We seek to extend the benefits of having real-time information and data to our entire value chain. We also look to extend our digital tools to our suppliers and customers so that they can be part of the change and continuous evolution process.

One material, endless possibilities

A large number of co-products result from the steel manufacturing process. These can be reutilized, thus helping to reduceCO2 emissions. In the latest years, we have achieved a 100% material efficiency and the number of co-products resulting from the manufacturing processes has increased significantly. In 2017 we started performing life cycle assessments of some products to elaborate corresponding EPDs (environmental product declarations). As members of the World Steel Association we submitted our indicators to the de Climate Action, Sustainability and Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) programs
