The Mirador Garza Ayala Park features different games for children with disabilities to enjoy public spaces.
The state of Nuevo León in Mexico now has its first inclusive park: the Parque Mirador Garza Ayala, an initiative of San Pedro Parques and the municipality of San Pedro Garza García, aimed to allow any child with a disability to have fun.
Different companies participated in the investment for the park's new design, among them Ternium, which contributed a little more than US$55,000. This is one of the ways how the company seeks to establish relationships with the communities where it operates.
"For us, this is a way to reach out to the community and be present in different ways. The collective impact allows us all to join efforts, have better results, and provide more benefits to the communities. Public spaces are one of the most important needs in the metropolitan area," said Allyson Treviño, Community Relations Senior Manager of Ternium Mexico.
The park is more than 50 years old, and two years ago the project began with the restoration of the space to create the first park that features justice, independence, and safety elements. In addition, lighting and accessible games were installed that contemplate aspects of inclusion in terms of mobility, and sensory, for children in wheelchairs, with autism, among others.
"Thanks to these donations we were able to import the first playground equipment in Mexico that contemplates all inclusion spectrums", commented Germán Enriquez, Director of San Pedro Parques.
San Pedro Parques plans to achieve that 70% of the entire population of San Pedro Garza García will have a park operated by them that is fully inclusive.
