Argentina: Led illumination in Ternium’s plants

Share

More than 700 LED lights were placed in the Central Services Workshop in the General Savio plant, in Argentina, replacing conventional lights. This plan from the Energetic Efficiency department proposes the replacing of 7.000 lights that are all over the plant, achieving this by 2030. The project will also benefit the environment and will better the security.

The plan of replacing light fixtures in industrial units that are performed by the Energetic Efficiency department accomplished its first objective that was the change of 733 lights installed in all industrial centers that make up the Central Workshop. With this initiative, we can achieve more efficient use of electric energy, which results in the saving of 1.500 MWh per year.

As Marcelo Macario, Energetic Efficiency Department Chief, declares, the LED equipment requires around half of the power that the traditional system needs and it has better lighting. It also strengthens safety conditions.

The newly installed equipment is to avoid the risk of artifacts falling from heights. “Each equipment that was placed includes a sling that can catch the light artifact in case of it breaking, Thus, avoiding falling objects”, Franco Giusti, Energetic Efficiency Department member, explained.

With LED technology, the lighting is higher and the electric consumption is lesser. “As a consequence, the annual generation of carbon dioxide is reduced by 763 tons”, Sergio Salinas, from the same department, details.

According to the incorporation of the standard ISO 50.001 in Ternium Argentina, the high illumination plan in industrial units had a positive start “thanks to the collaboration between the Central Workshop staff and Logistic Services”, Marcelo Macario added.

However, the plan has objectives set for 2030: it will try to achieve the replacement of more than 7.000 lights of this kind, that are all over the plant.

There was LED. This lighting doesn’t just generate a 50% in savings, it also has a longer lifespan and generates less contamination.
