Starting in late October, Ternium will update its best practice recognition program, changing the name of the Man of Steel Trophy to Excellence Award.
The initiative will continue to highlight projects that have brought operational, safety, environmental or cost reduction gains. The name replacement was driven in order to have a broader view of diversity, which reinforces respect for gender diversity and includes even more people in the recognition process. Now, in addition to the operation teams, the administrative teams are also included and participate in the recognition process. For this reason, the name Man of Steel no longer reflects the values we want to highlight today.
“We know that the Man of Steel is highly valued by those who have already won it, and it is desired by all who work here at Ternium. We have brought in a more current and diverse name, specifically, the Excellence Award, to continue recognizing our female and our male employees,” said Ternium Vice President of Operations, Titus Schaar.
The old trophy (left) was replaced by the new one (right), which will be given out already in the next award.
The new trophy was developed by Ternium's design office in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and will be given out in the next award, scheduled for the end of October. Ternium Human Resources Director Ivani Silveira points out that the company plans to continue the diversity agenda. “We know that the steel industry still needs to speed up this process, but we have a clear view of the road we want to follow to have a more diverse, inclusive company,” he concluded.
