Marcelo Chara debates the future of the steel industry at the 2021 Brazil Steel Congress

Share

Marcelo Chara described a few of the company's recent initiatives.

“There are also other technologies that must be deepened, such as carbon capture and storage. We have advanced studies in companies in the group that already use this technology. In Mexico, we were able to implement carbon capture and sell CO2 to a beverage manufacturer. But it is still an innovation that requires research and investment to be better developed and become competitive for the industry The challenge is to engage public and private sectors in the development of these technologies,” Chara added.

In early 2021, Ternium set up a global decarbonization roadmap to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by 20% by 2030. In August, Ternium Brasil and Vale signed a Memorandum of Understanding to analyze different alternatives to reduce emissions from their operations.
