Ternium has just entered a new stage of investments in the Technical Gen project, a partnership between the company and CEFET Itaguaí since 2019. In recent weeks, the company has delivered the new benches to the facility's pneumatic laboratory. In addition to the remodeling, updating and adequacy of the new laboratory study materials, Ternium will also carry out certification for the unit's teachers and students.
In November, teachers received training from Festo, one of the largest pneumatic companies in the world. Between February and May 2022, the content will be taught to students who will take a pneumatic certification test in June.
In the partnership, Ternium invests in structural remodeling, training and equipment purchase for CEFET Itaguaí.
According to Gleidson Santos, Community Relations Trainee at Ternium, the partnership between teaching institutions and the industry is fundamental. “Our actions with the Technician Gen project at CEFET strengthen the institution and bring students closer to the industry,” he explains.
“We are receiving new pneumatic benches, training, and qualification. After all the training, we will be able to relay our knowledge to the students, who will also receive a Festo certification in the future,” said Gilbert Pereira, Professor at CEFET Itaguaí.
ABOUT TECHNICAL GEN
A Ternium global initiative, Technical Gen fosters vocational technical education for the industry through investments in infrastructure, training, and qualification of students and teachers, in addition to professional practices. In 2019, the institution chosen by Ternium was CEFET, and the Itaguaí unit is the closest unit to the plant. The institution operates in both technical and higher education, with courses in production and mechanical engineering, among others. However, Ternium's focus on the institution is the specialization in mechanics, to bring students closer to the industry.
Since the beginning of the partnership, the program has carried out several actions. They include:
2020. Structural remodeling with purchase of equipment for the metallography laboratory and thermal equipment.
General remodeling in the institution's auditorium.
2021. Structural remodeling with purchase of equipment for the microscopy laboratory;
Hybrid and STEM training for teachers.
Work safety lecture for students.
For the Coordinator of the Mechanical Technical Course Integrated to High School, Vanessa Schmidt, the investment in remodeling at the CEFET Itaguaí laboratories will allow increasing the number of students per class: “Before it was only possible to put ten students in each room, now we are able to put between twenty and thirty [students] at once per laboratory. Thus, it will be possible to have a more expanded practice and greater opportunity for students in this practical knowledge.”
