New projects on the horizon

Share

The company announced today that it will integrate its operations in the North America region with a new mill and will build a wind farm that will supply electricity to Ternium plants in Argentina.

Ternium will invest approximately $2.2 billion dollars in the construction of a new mill based on an Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) in the USMCA region to complement and support the hot rolling mill at Pesqueria, Mexico.

This new mill will have an annual capacity of 2.6 million ton, as well as a Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) module with an annual capacity of 2.1 million ton. The project will include the construction of a port installation to manage raw materials.

Ternium expects these mills to start working in the first semester of 2026. “The implementation of the USMCA and the recent trend in the supply chain to identify production capacity in near countries has turned the region into an attractive destination for continuous investment,” said Ternium’s CEO, Maximo Vedoya. “In a market that demands differentiated products and services, this new project will advance with the continuous integration of our industrial system and enforce Ternium’s position as a lead steel provider in the region.”

The company also announced a $160 million dollar investment to build a new windfarm which will supply energy in Argentina. The project is expected to start operating during 2024, it will have 72 MW of installed power and will allow the replacement of approximately 65% of the energy acquired to third parties.

Both projects will accelerate the progress of Ternium towards its decarbonization goals, which on the medium term seek to reduce the intensity of emissions by 20% in 2030.
