From apprentice to maintenance engineer and two times Man of Steel award at Ternium Brasil. Italo Amaral, 25, speaks and boosts inspiration the students of the Roberto Rocca Educational Program.
At 25 years old, Ítalo Amaral is one of the young people who stand out at Ternium Brazil. He entered the company through the Trainee Program in 2018, and approximately two years later, he holds the position of Maintenance Engineer, having been recognized along with his team at two Man of Steel Awards. A resident of Campo Grande and holding a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering by CEFET in Itaguaí, he was chosen to become part of a conversation with 20 young people, members of the Roberto Rocca Educational Program.
The initiative of Community Relations is addressed to students from public universities studying engineering, and it offers a sole scholarship of R$4.500 reals. The program promotes college degrees, values a culture of effort, and academic excellence. “Being part of this conversation is interesting because, in a way, it creates a good reference for young people participating in the program,” Ítalo takes pride in.
–How did you feel when you were invited to have an online conversation with alumni from the Roberto Rocca Educational Program?
–I am so very thankful; I feel privileged to have participated in a development program for young people in Ternium, the Trainee Program. Being close to other young people and giving back what I once received is highly gratifying. Besides, a good number of young people part of the Roberto Rocca Educational program are studying in the very same college where I studied engineering (CEFET-Itaguaí). It is very good to observe the company getting involved in the education and career paths of other young ones that live close by.
–What kind of impact might this conversation have on the future of these students?
–To some extent, it creates a useful reference for young people participating in the program. It is nice that people that have gone through similar paths show these young ones away before the turbulent scenario that we live in, particularly in terms of health and economy. It will probably leave a mark in their minds, and I have seen the results. Some of them have already made contact with me and sent messages telling me they were impressed and that our conversation changed their perspective of life.
–How is it to start navigating a professional career and at the same time, serving as a reference for young people craving for a similar spot at the job market?
–If you have a position of service, in both work and personal life, the financial return and the recognition will gradually happen. To follow a career and at the same time, to be a reference for young ones, is the result of always being with a mentality of service.
To serve the company, the community, city, and society whichever way we can place us as reference. We are earning spots in the job market and “sowing seeds” in our path.
–What message would you leave for the young people starting a career in Ternium?
–I would say it is essential that we, as the young ones, have humility at the top. Humility to recognize that no matter the years we have studied, there are people –regardless of their position at the company- with a lot to teach us. Humility comes first. Afterward, always being at the disposal of service. Therefore, let´s be humble enough to acknowledge our mistakes and the need to grow and take a look at the problems surrounding us. To understand what is happening, the processes and being available to contribute to what we are capable of delivering is fundamental. Thus, humility and the will to serve are what make an impact and change the quality of our work.
