Ternium´s industrial plants sustainability pioneers

Share

Ternium Industrial Center and Tenigal exhibit their ISO 50001 certification, obtained in 2019.

Ternium Industrial Center and Tenigal, located in Mexico, exhibit their ISO 50001 certification, obtained in 2019.

It was the midst of 2019 when Ternium´s Industrial Center (CIT) and Tenigal achieved the ISO 50001: 2001 certification, which seeks that organizations establish systems and processes to improve their energetic performance, regarding efficiency as well as usage and consumption.

Within a year, the certification that avails this achievement is being displayed at CIT and Tenigal´s facilities, remarked Albes Urdaneta, Chief of the Department of Energetic Efficiency of Ternium Mexico.

Areas such as CIT and Tenigal´s Cold Rolling were audited to evaluate the sustainability of their processes. Finally, this year, the certifying body Bureau Veritas alongside UKAS Management Systems delivered the certification.

Tenigal and CIT were the first Ternium facilities to obtain this certification in Mexico.

Amongst the benefits that ISO 50001 grants, it can be highlighted the improvement in measurements and calculations in areas such as energetic review, its primary goal being having energy consumption regulation and control.

“Even the purchasing of energy has to be looked after with its customers. This leads the organization as a whole to be fully committed to an energetic topic because it is an integral obligation. We all affect positively or negatively the Energy Management System,” Urdaneta pointed out.

These certifications were obtained thanks to great teamwork between Operations, Maintenance, Quartermaster area, Environment, and Energetic Efficiency areas. Currently, work is being done to obtain such certification in the state of Guerrero, and then carry on with the facilities in Puebla, Largos Norte, and Churubusco.

Actions like these and many others contribute to the environmental commitment that Ternium has with its production processes, to benefit the community.
