Steel Industry: a job generator for Mexico

Steel is strongly related to the economical development of the country. This material is present in all the activities and thanks to it, it is possible to have a modern lifestyle in Mexico and other countries.

According to the World Steel Association, six million people work in the steel industry at an international level.

When the steel industry creates one job, another 8.1 indirect jobs are created too. In other words, in the global value chain, the industry employs 49.3 million people, that’s more than Spain’s or Argentina’s population.

This data highlights the importance of steel as a strategic component for social and industrial development since it strengthens the supply chain of the automation, home appliances, and building sectors.

The steel brings job opportunities

According to the National Steel Chamber (CANACERO), the sector generated 672 thousand direct and indirect jobs in Mexico in the last 10 years (2011-2020). Besides, the country is in fifteenth place as a worldwide steel producer, with a production of more than 16.8 million tons in 2020. This is the importance of the sector for Mexico.

Ternium, as one of the lead companies in the steel industry, supports talent in diverse functional areas, like fabrication and production, engineer and process development, technology, sustainability, research, marketing, product development, commerce, sales, logistics, finances, strategies, and human resources.

One of the initiatives that make this possible is Ternium University, where the collaborators can find education programs that complement their professional development, with Administration, Industrial, and Business Schools, which cover all the needs for each production level: professionals, supervisors, technicians, and workers.

Besides, the educational and work experience can be boosted with the Global Trainee program, specialized formation, merit scholarships, Roberto Rocca educative program, and other initiatives.

More than 20 thousand collaborators count with a variety of challenges and opportunities during their experience in Ternium, most of them went to foreign countries, and they experienced new and diverse work environments, which encourage them to innovate and make easier the generation of solutions where the steel is the key.

With all these education programs, the innovation in the strategies and products of the steel industry increase, which means that the operations are more efficient, and the clients are satisfied, thanks to the high-quality standards, service, and excellence in production.
