Ternium México: One of the best places to work for LGBTQ+

Share

This is the second consecutive year in which the company is acknowledged with this distinctive as part of the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.

Ternium in Mexico was recognized as one of the best places for LGBT+ people to work, after receiving the HRC Equidad MX 2022 certification, which is given by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC).

Ternium is among the Mexican companies which have consecutively maintained their good practices with the LGBTQ+ community. This is also the only steelworks company with this certification in Mexico.

HRC is an organization located in the US with several global partnerships designed to promote the inclusion of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) people in the workplace.

This certification aims to commit to equality and establish policies in favor of gender equality and identity, sexual orientation and inclusion in the private sector, through an annual measurement that evaluates their policies and practices.

In this edition, 262 companies participated, from industries such as entertainment, hospitality, pharmaceuticals, consultancy, finances, among others. Only 242 achieved their certification.

“Inclusive workplaces contribute to build trust and profitability in a company. When employers want to attract and retain a better workforce, everybody wins”, said Keisha Williams, director of the Workplace Equity Program from the HRC Foundation, in a virtual event taking place December 2nd.

Recognized companies were made known in an online event taking place December 2nd.

In order to obtain the “Best Places to Work LGBTQ+” distinction, companies must obtain a 100% score in a yearly survey evaluating the inclusion of LGBTQ+ people in Mexican and multinational companies.

In these surveys, companies show their interest in adding efforts in favor of spaces in which people feel validated and free to express themselves without being judged by their sexual orientation or gender identity.

This acknowledgement measures different aspects of organizations such as Non-Discrimination and Equity of Opportunity employment policies, LGBTQ+ Organizational Competence, and Public Commitment.

For the 2022 edition, Ternium presented its initiatives to participate in the certification, such as the Diversity and Inclusion policy, E-learnings, workshops and trainings on this matter, the processes for equity in employment opportunities, the Compliance Line, Lean In Circles, and the Maternity Mentoring Program.

Moreover, they implemented the participation of leaders in forums and talks that address the matter, the conditioning of infrastructure to meet the needs of people with disabilities or pregnant or lactating women, and examples of communication and diffusion on the company's public commitment to respect human rights.
