El programa de Voluntarios en Acción de Ternium inauguró de forma oficial un espacio educativo que beneficia a 45 niños en condición de discapacidad de la Institución Educativa Augusto Quant, en el municipio de Palmar de Varela, en el Atlántico.
As part of Ternium's commitment to the communities where it is present, the official inauguration of the renovated classroom was held. Ternium’s Volunteers in Action carried out the renovation in this institution for the education of boys and girls with disabilities of the municipality.
The work was completed in April and it was handed over to the directors of the institution in June of this year, as a result of the pandemic. The official event was held until now in order to receive the children on their return to school. The event was attended by Ternium directors, the Mayor of Palmar de Varela, parents, students, and directors of the educational institution.
“We received this donation with great satisfaction because the children did not have adequate space and it was a latent need, especially considering their special needs. Thanks to Ternium for all its contributions to the education of the municipality,” says Galdino René Orozco Fontalvo, Mayor of the municipality of Palmar de Varela.
Now that students are returning to face-to-face classes, they are enjoying a bigger and much more comfortable learning space, thanks to the improvements that included ceilings, walls, floors, new tables and chairs, installation of air conditioning, and a new bathroom.
Mom María Durán expresses her happiness and tranquility knowing that her daughter has an educational space with all the necessary conditions. "With this new classroom they will feel happy, they will be able to socialize better with their classmates and they will be in conditions that facilitate their learning."
Added to this donation are the 12 Excellence Scholarships that the company had already awarded to students from the Palmar de Varela municipality, who stood out for their good academic performance.
