Share

Ternium has a Continuous Improvement Department to identify opportunities for improvement in operations and services

During the National Forum of Continuous Improvement teams by the Mexican Association for Teamwork, two teams from Ternium México were awarded the “Models for the year 2021” acknowledgment.

Projects “Reduction of Set To Thousand (PAM)” of Hot Mill 2 (MC2) and “Improvement in Quality of Briquette, Direct Reduction”, both in the Guerrero Facility, are the teams recognized during the event, which took place in early November in Cancún.

This was the thirty-second delivery is done by this forum, in which there is an evaluation and recognition of the best teams for continuous improvement country-wide, Fernando Toriz, manager of Continuous Improvement, explains.

43 teams of 17 companies in Mexico participated, of which the best groups were chosen in four categories.

These teams were named “Models of the year”.

“This is the fourth consecutive occasion in which Ternium teams get to this final instance. Out of the last seven teams that have participated in all editions, four have won this distinction of models of the year”, Toriz commented.

Francisco Torres, Mechanical leader at MC2 and member of the “PAM” team, highlighted that Ternium demonstrated in this competition that they know how to work as a team: a cornerstone for the success of any company.

“We are ready to participate next year and we're getting ready with a project of the line; we’re working to win, firstly, the local contest, then, the regional one, and finally, getting to the nationals”.

On his own behalf, Arturo Medellín, engineer for production in MC2 and member of this team, highlighted that the experience of having participated in this project is a motivation to continue improving working areas.

“The results we obtained in this project have brought us great savings for the company. Being able to represent it in this kind of contest is a great motivation”, he said.

The Reduction of Waste of the HM2 project consists of reducing the loss of steel that is generated by producing one ton.

Besides this, Jesús Navarro, chief of Material Management in Guerrero, belonging to the “Improvement of Quality in Briquette, Direct Reduction” team, invited the rest of the collaborators to identify areas of improvement, which could become great benefits in company operations.

“Going on representing Ternium and exposing our case of success was a very gratifying and challenging experience”, Navarro said.

“As a personal experience, it was very satisfactory to me, because I never thought of participating in something like this in the company, and thanks to the support of the company, I have set myself many goals, among which there was this project of which I’m proud to be a part with my teammates,” added Néstor Hernández, supervisor of Material Management in Guerrero and also member of this team.
