Two Lean In Circles were created in Argentina, two in Brazil, and two in Mexico on-site. They gathered between the final months of 2019 and January 2020, before the sanitary contingency arose.
Lean In Circles initiative has gathered 140 people from all Ternium and has educated them about diversity so they can become role models on this matter.
As a part of Diversity+ Program, Ternium launched in 2019 —globally— the Lean In Together Circles initiative, discussion groups aiming to educate participants about topics such as identity, unconscious biases, sexual orientation, and gender identity, global perspective, intercultural leadership, inclusive spaces, and difference strategic management.
The project kicked off with ten pilot networks, where 140 people took part. The networks were made up between 12 and 17 members. Two were created in Argentina, two in Brazil, and two in Mexico on-site. They gathered between the final months of 2019 and January 2020, before the sanitary contingency arose.
Two networks were launched via digital media in Colombia, and a couple more were comprised of leaders of different countries. Each Circle lasted six months, meeting monthly. The participants had to work with pre and post-session tasks, reviewing and reinforcing the topics covered in each encounter.
Among the general objectives of Lean In Circles, we can find:
- To generate networking and professional support networks within the organization.
- To identify and analyze unconscious biases regarding the Circle´s topic inside workplace situations.
- Taking to action precise actions that manage unconscious biases and to generate more egalitarian workspaces.
- To generate a collaboration spirit between various company profiles.
- To generate multipliers of inclusive working styles that allow to accelerate cultural change and, therefore, to create competitive strengths emanated from diversity within the organization.
“Despite the pandemic, to us, inclusion networks mean one of the fundamental initiatives from Diversity+ Program at Ternium. Each one of the participants is an agent of change who will help us boost and evolve towards a more inclusive culture,” expressed Paola Béjar, Organizational Development Analyst. “We are fully committed to relaunching as soon as possible. As of today, we have more than 100 people signed up globally for the second generation of 2020, and we will keep on adding more people to make our networks grow.”
