Steel that helps save lives against coronavirus

Share

Ternium produced 200 tons of specialized steel for motors and mechanic ventilators.

With a process initiated in Brazil, Ternium produced 200 tons of specialized steel for motors and mechanic ventilators.

In the battle against COVID-19, mechanic ventilators have been the key to save thousands of lives around the globe, ventilators that need to be made with very specialized steel for its proper functioning.

Ternium produces this type of steel and is highly competitive in the market. Proof of this is the order requested by the Japanese company Nidec, in the midst of May. With this steel, Nidec produced specialized motors for mechanic ventilators.

What involves producing this type of steel?

Once this stainless steel slab arrived from Ternium Brazil, it was transferred towards the Hot Rolling area in Planta Churubusco. It culminated in its process in Guerrero, in the Cold Rolling and Finishing area.

To produce this steel, the Production, Processes, and Quality team had to be involved, since six different processes were made from start to finish, which was the manufacturing of electric motors.

Hot Mill takes care of issues such as caliber, temperature, quality, and tempering. The latter so the customer can give his optimal touch with any treatment he assigns to the production line.

In the end, the product came out in the shape of a roll, weighing around 16 to 18 tons each. This kind of steel takes between six and seven weeks to produce; however, a reduction of time was achieved for Nidec, due to the high demand of this medical equipment, needed for fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

This coordination and teamwork reinforce the trust that customers have of Ternium, knowing the company is committed to complying with a prompt level of reaction without compromising the highest standards in the market.
